I had plumper cheeks, a more chiseled jawline, and an effortless radiance I’d never had before, as if I’d simply slept for a century.

Best Facial Massage Techniques That Literally Changed The Shape Of My Face

I would have gone back every other week to have that facial, but here’s the catch: It happened in Tokyo, at the headquarters of Koh Gen Do, a Japanese cosmetics company. I’m prepared to travel for a facial, but Los Angeles to Japan is a bit too far for me. Devastating.

Fortunately, Megumi Setoguchi, Koh Gen Do’s senior managing director and chief facialist, came to L.A. a few weeks after this life-changing facial massage and offered a session on how to perform this facial massage on yourself. It’s quite easy to do and only takes a few minutes, so you can easily fit it into your regular schedule. Even better, you don’t need the help of a professional esthetician to obtain those lifted, contoured results—you can do it yourself. Setoguchi and Dr. Jeannette Graf discuss the steps and benefits of a macro beauty massage ahead.

What Is a Macro Beauty Massage, and How Does It Work?
“The macro beauty massage is a unique treatment that helps support beautiful skin by relaxing the stiffness of your head, neck, nerves, muscles, meridians, and lymph nodes,” adds Setoguchi. It’s made to help you look after your skin from the inside out. “Many women focus on troubled skin areas, although the causes of troubled skin are usually not visible on the face surface,” she continues.

Benefits of a Macro Beauty Massage Improves lymphatic circulation and adds a glow to the skin Decreases the appearance of puffiness Promotes general skin health Reduces stiffness and muscular tension
Face muscles that are stiff and contracted are relaxed.

I was shocked! I discovered a way to enjoy my morning coffee and fight the extra weight that was keeping me from seeing myself the way i wish!

What I love about it is that it is natural, Vegetarian, Non-GMO, Gluten free... Perfect for everyday use!

I felt a boost in my metabolism and amazingly, I didn't feel that much hungry as before!

The nature of sculpting the facial muscles to drain the excess fluid that causes puffiness, according to Graf, will result in “an immediate release of tension in the face, reduction in puffiness, firmer skin, and a radiant glow due to the nature of sculpting the facial muscles to drain the excess fluid that causes puffiness.”

“This form of facial massaging focuses on the lymph nodes beneath the ears and on the neck, draining the toxins that accumulate beneath the skin and create dullness. More oxygen is delivered to the skin as a result of increased circulation in certain areas, which stimulates collagen synthesis and improves overall skin nutrition and health “She clarifies.

The highlight of the treatment was a facial massage method in which the esthetician used her palms to firmly shape and knead my facial muscles, similar to a deep-tissue body massage. My face had literally changed shape by the time I emerged—it was more lifted and sculpted. I told a woman in the lobby who’d just gotten out of the same facial, “I feel like I just had really fantastic sex,” and she concurred wholeheartedly.

During a Macro Beauty Massage, What to Expect
The massage has two major goals: to relieve muscle tension and to drain extra fluid from the face, which causes puffiness. For this massage, you’ll want to use the surface of your palm rather than the tips of your fingers. Massage “deeply, slowly, and widely” according to the Koh Gen Do technique. The only product you’ll need to complete this facial is a creamy moisturizer, such as Koh Gen Do’s Macro Vintage Royal Massage Milk ($210), which contains firming and plumping ingredients to complement the physical massage.

The technique’s initial portion focuses on releasing tension: Begin by evenly spreading your moisturizer all over your face, using the surface of your hand rather than the tips of your fingers. Place your palm between your brows now. Massage in circular strokes up toward your hairline with firm, equal pressure. Next, place both palms on your temples and massage in circular motions with firm pressure. You can vary the length of time you perform this depending on your degree of tension, but 20 seconds or so typically suffices for me.

Techniques for Facial Massage
Now is the moment to try to de-puff your face by draining the excess fluid. Place your palms beneath the cheekbones and massage backwards toward the hairline with the same level of pressure. Finish by cupping the cheeks with your palms and pulling them upward for five seconds. Rep these steps from the jawline to the sides of your face, concluding with a sweep down the neck beneath your ears to drain lymph. Repeat these motions five or six times more if desired.

Finally, place the sides of your index fingers on the nasolabial fold (the crease that connects the sides of your nose to the sides of your mouth) and sweep them toward the side of your face in one fluid motion, ending by slowly sweeping your fingers from the jawline down your neck to drain the lymph. If you require a visual, use the diagrams above or this video tutorial.

You might notice a visible alteration in your face shape by the time you’re done (I know I do!). Look at the image above—doesn’t it look pretty contoured?). Below are the things that I personally use and that Graf suggests using after a massage. Graf recommends that you keep your regular skincare routine after the massage.

Avocado protein, probiotics, amino acids, and gentle brightening acids are all included in Koh Gen Do’s Massage Milk to help the skin look smoother, plumper, and brighter. It’s ultra-smooth, fragrance-free, and has never caused breakouts on my combination skin.

I like to add a couple drops of this oil to my massage milk if my skin is feeling drier than usual. Perilla seed oil, kukui nut oil, and cannabis sativa seed oil are among the components in this non-greasy oil. Essential fatty acids and natural antioxidants are found in these products, which help to replenish the skin’s moisture barrier and prevent dryness and fine wrinkles. 2

The C-Drops’ Saint Jane
Graf recommends Saint Jane’s C-Drops to help reduce dryness after a massage by delivering hydration and antioxidants to the skin. This serum, which contains citrus botanicals, vitamin C, and active ingredients, seeks to revitalize dry, dull skin and fine wrinkles. This serum should be applied after cleansing and before moisturizing, according to her.
