Be adaptable.

We constantly anticipate delays and try not to become frustrated when things go wrong. Traveling requires a great deal of patience!

Make a To-Do List

I prepare a mental list of items I don’t want to forget about a week or so before each trip — which I WILL forget if I don’t write them down. I’ve learnt that whenever I have an idea, I should write it down.

The importance of packing lists cannot be overstated. Check out our Ultimate Carry-On Packing Guide and our Road Trip Packing Guide for more information.

I was shocked! I discovered a way to enjoy my morning coffee and fight the extra weight that was keeping me from seeing myself the way i wish!

What I love about it is that it is natural, Vegetarian, Non-GMO, Gluten free... Perfect for everyday use!

I felt a boost in my metabolism and amazingly, I didn't feel that much hungry as before!

Learn a few key phrases in the local tongue.
In the local tongue, a simple “Please,” “Thank you,” and “I’m sorry” goes a long way. But that’s just me. I also like to learn the word for beer.

Don’t forget to bring a spare camera battery (or Two)
Have you ever arrived at your favorite sunset photo location only to discover that your camera battery is dead and you don’t have a backup? On all of our excursions, I try to bring at least three camera batteries so that we don’t miss out on that ideal image.

Always bring a sarong with you.

Sarongs can be used as a blanket, a towel, a curtain, or a piece of clothing that can be worn in a variety of ways. Solid colors are nice, but if you want to stand out, this sarong is perfect.

Purchase travel insurance at all times.

A medical emergency might completely deplete your money – or even cause you to lose your life savings. For travel insurance, we use and recommend World Nomads.

Important Documents Should Be Photocopied

I used to keep a copy of my passport in a separate bag from my actual passport when I was in my early twenties. Then I became lazy.

A buddy of mine just lost her passport at the airport. They said they would have allowed her go if she had brought a copy of it and extra passport photos. She was forced to lose a $2,000 flight and a week in Europe because she didn’t. I now have a copy with me at all times.

Pack an extra set of underwear.

Because underwear is so little, it’s usually a good idea to have a few spare pairs on hand in case of an emergency. Another alternative is to bring these quick-dry underpants with you so that you may wash them on the go.

Prepare your outfits ahead of time.

Because I’m a slacker who packs at the last minute, I’ve spent far too many trips wearing all black or all grey clothing because I didn’t plan ahead of time. Looking back at images, I wish I had spent more time packing.

In your carry-on, place electronics, medications, a toothbrush, and an extra pair of underwear.
A few essentials should always be carried in your carry-on bag. If you’re going on a beach vacation, a swimsuit is also a fantastic choice. Most of these items can be purchased if your luggage is lost in transit, but having them in your carry-on will save you money and time if your luggage is lost.

Before boarding a bus, guagua, or other kind of public transit, it’s a good idea to inquire about the cost. In the Dominican Republic, we learned our lesson.

Bring Lotion in Your Carry-On I cover both sides of a contact lens case with hydrating lotion (I use this all-natural hydrating lotion) because hydrating lotion is rarely available in restrooms and airplane cabins are extremely dry.

On planes, stay hydrated.

I get that getting drunk at 30,000 feet is a lot of fun, but it’s also a lot simpler to become dehydrated. It’s also simpler to get over jet lag if you stay hydrated, especially on long-haul flights.

Inquire with the locals

We always ask the locals to recommend the greatest eateries, the best sunset viewing places, the best coffee shops, and so on. However, I enjoy telling folks what kind of cuisine I’m desiring. I’ve been directed to several fascinating restaurants that I would not have chosen.

Free public WIFI should be avoided at all costs.

When I’m utilizing free public WIFI at a location like an airport, I try to avoid logging into bank accounts or entering any passwords. Once I’ve arrived at my hotel, I’m not as rigid about it, especially if their wifi has a password.

Make your travel plans known to your bank and credit card company.

If you don’t want your credit card provider or bank to put a hold on your card while you’re away, this is a good practice to get into.

Put on some sunscreen.

SPF is in my face moisturizer. This is something I do on a daily basis, but it’s very crucial when traveling.

Cheap Flights if You Book Early

When I’m planning a trip, the first thing I do is book flights – often nearly a year in advance! Most of the time, the earlier you book, the better the pricing. Unless there is a bargain, airfare rarely decreases in price (or an airline pricing error).

When I’m looking for a good deal on a flight, I go to Momondo first. It searches hundreds of websites for the best deal, including both mainstream and low-cost carriers. The calendar (or “map”) tool displays the cheapest days to fly in the month of your choice!

Maintain an open mind.

Don’t pass judgment on other people’s traditions. You are a visitor to our site. Respect each other.

Allow for some spontaneity.

Make sure you don’t plan your entire trip ahead of time. I know it’s tempting, but those spontaneous moments on the road may provide for some of the best memories.

Make sure someone at home is aware of your plans.
This is especially vital when traveling alone, but it’s a smart idea regardless of the size of your company.

Keep your personal belongings separate.

Scott and I blend our personal belongings into each checked suitcase when we travel together (assuming we have more than one). That way, if one of our bags is misplaced, we’ll still have some clothing and personal belongings.

Separate your financial sources.

Don’t keep all of your money and credit cards in the same place. I keep some cash and a back up credit/bank card in a bag that isn’t in the same bag as my wallet.

First Aid Kit for Travel

We bring along a small first-aid kit with aspirin, Benedryl, cold medicine, Tums, cough drops, bandages, Activated Charcoal pills (which are lifesavers for traveler’s diarrhea and minor allergic reactions), Neosporin, and other items that we may not always have easy access to while traveling. J&J supplies a little first-aid package for a reasonable price.
